With the Alliance Française French Film Festival 2010 fast approaching, we are proud to present you a Panorama of French Cinema !
Through the inventions of Les Frères Lumière and a century of influence over European and International movie industries, France is actually the country where cinema was born.
This course will take you on a journey through four great periods of French cinematic history :
- Silent Movies with amazing filmakers such as Georges Méliès, Abel Gance, and many more . . .
-The classical Age ( 1930 to 1950) Jean Renoir, Marcel Carné . . .
- The New Wave (1960-1970) Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut . . .
- The Contemporary Era : Jacques Audiard, André Téchiné, Philippe Garrel . . .
Each class will incorporate movie extracts illustrating the theme of the day.
In addition to learning about the history of cinema and France itself, as seen through the eyes of influential French filmakers, this course is a great opportunity to discover other aspects of French Cinema including : Centre National de la Cinématographie, which helps and supports the French movie industry, the annual Cannes International Film Festival, the controversial status of entertainment workers, and much more . . .
These classes are primarily designed for students who already have a good level of french ( starting level 5/6) and they are held
on Thursday from 6.15pm to 8.15pm.
They will be the perfect way to improve your communication skills and will equally enable you to appreciate milestones in french cinema in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Finally, the course will also help you make an informed selection at this year's French Film Festival, due to recommence in February 2011
