General Information
The Alliance Française is the premier French language institution in Sydney, with over 4,000 students attending per year.
Our communication-oriented approach provides students with opportunities to express themselves in French from their very first lessons. Our courses cover the four core areas of language development: speaking, reading comprehension, writing and listening with a special emphasis on enhancing students' oral communication skills. All teachers are qualified French native speakers. Students interact, communicate and work in groups of 10 -16 people using the most advanced audio-visual methods.
The Alliance Française offers a wide range of courses, from standard to tailored ones which are designed to suit all level of competencies and needs. In addition, our school also enables you to prepare and pass official accreditation.
The Alliance Française de Sydney is responsible for allocating the students into the class that best corresponds to their language level and needs. Any change of class requires the approval of the teacher and the education manager. Students are reminded that they cannot choose a particular class or teacher. As teachers have extensive experience, every effort will be made to maintain high standards of teaching and smooth transition from one session to another or replacement of a teacher.
In the best interest of our students, the Alliance Française de Sydney asks that first time enrolments and re-enrolments be made 1 week prior to the commencement date of each session in order to avoid class cancellations. The early re-enrolments will be entitled to the discount stated below under "enrolment and fees".
Any information provided to the Alliance Française de Sydney is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to other third parties.
The Alliance Française de Sydney courses follow the common European Framework of Reference for languages with the table below showing their respective equivalents.

The Alliance Française also rewards special discounts (Valid for all courses except Private Tuition and without a break between two sessions) to its most loyal students when they enrol before the early bird deadline (usually latest 1 week prior to the beginning of the next session):
- 5% discount for the 1st consecutive re-enrolment
- 8% discount for the 2nd consecutive re-enrolment
- 10% discount from the 3rd consecutive re-enrolment and for all future enrolments
Please note the early bird discount only applies to full term courses.
How to enrol?
- If you are a complete beginner: The beginners' and the French for Travellers course are the most appropriate options to help you start learning French. No enrolment test is required for these classes.
- If you are not a beginner: You will be required to undertake a free oral and written test in order for us to ascertain your level of French. This will enable us to place you in the most suitable class. The written test can be done online, Click here or at the Alliance Française. Once you have finished your written test, please contact the Alliance Française to organise an appointment for an oral test.
