Ateliers "Prononciation" et "Phonétique"
Click to enlarge 10.30am to 12.30pm, with a half-hour break for students' croissant and chocolat chaud.
Overview:
The
Pronunciation workshop is suitable for Year 7 - 12 students; activities are adapted according to the level of the participating year group(s). Activities enhance French pronunciation, particularly of the French nasal sounds (e.g. raisin, pain, gant, etc.) through games, songs, rhymes and tongue-twisters.
The
Phonetics workshop is suitable for second-time visits to the Alliance Française, and for students in Year 11 - 12 desiring a fun introduction to reading and interpreting the phonetic alphabet. Includes a contemporary song "La tortue" by Christophe Willem, where students have to decode the phonetic alphabet to solve a "chanson à trou". Students also learn to "think phonetically", while making the distinction between the sounds
- [ e ] (année) & [ ɛ ] (poète); and
- [ y ] (usage) & [ u ] (roue)
The [ e ], [ ɛ ], [ y ] and [ u ] sounds were selected since they pose significant problems for English speakers learning French; this workshop is designed not only to draw students' attention to this distinction but to give them tools to improve their accent with exercises led by French native speakers.
