No need to go to Europe or Canada with your class, come and join us to experience a winter Christmas!
Click to enlarge Recommended for Years 9 and 10, this workshop enables students to practise their French while imagining Christmas as experienced in the Northern Hemisphere! This 2-hour workshop encompasses a whirlwind tour of Alsace, Provence and Quebec, permitting students to discover "marchés de Noël", the 13 Provençal Christmas desserts, a zany Quebecois Christmas song and more...
OVERVIEW:
Our native French-speaking teachers will share their traditional Christmases with you. Students experience firsthand French traditions and socio‐cultural differences. The workshop also incorporates a decoration‐making activity and games using our interactive whiteboards to exercise speaking and reading-comprehension skills. The workshop is made up of 4 core activities:
- An overview of Christmas in France and Europe. This presentation compares and contrasts diverse Christmas customs, exploring asalcien Christmas traditions such as the famous "Grand Marché de Strasbourg" and the "couronne de l'avent", in addition to Provençal traditions including "le Gros souper".
- A French decoration-making activity. After making their decorations (following instructions in French!), students will decorate our Alliance Française "sapin". Students keep their decorations afterwards as a souvenir.
- Provençal Christmas traditions
- "Lettres au père Noël" guessing game, and a Quebecois song / video clip
