Concours / Competitions
Competitions for Primary and Secondary Schools

Our competitions enable NSW French students to apply their language skills in a creative manner, in accordance with their level of French. Students demonstrating flair in French have the opportunity to win great prizes.

In 2009, one lucky prize winner, selected from all our competition entrants, was awarded the grand prize of a flight to New Caledonia, courtesy of Aircalin. Other prizes included exclusive designer jewellery, a 6-month French magazine subscription, gift certificates for rollerblading lessons, vouchers to Abbeys Language Book Centre and LBF gift packs including a backpack, watch and $50 gift voucher.

2010 prize-winners will be invited to our Remise des Prix, to be held in November. Prize winners will be notified by invitation sent to their French teacher / Language Coordinator.

Entering your French class into our competitions is simple –
  • When enrolling, please attach a complete list of participating students (name and year group).
  • All entries should be submitted by the end of August 2010. Register by May 2010 to enter!
  • Each competition is accompanied by a ready-to-use Resource Dossier provided to schools upon registration. This contains classroom activities and worksheets that will help you and your students get the most from your registration in our competitions!
  • Most activities can be completed in 4-6 hours.
  • Francophone students are permitted to enter our 3 and 4 star competitions, however the standard expected by our jury is higher for these students. Native French-speaking students may also enter the competition: Calendrier de la Francophonie, where there is an emphasis on artistry and the representation of the chosen Francophone country. Teachers - please identify any Francophone competition participants.
  • The star grading has been designed to help teachers make their competition selection, advising the level of French ability required for each competition. There are 4 levels of competition difficulty, graded according to the number of hours of French study previously undertaken. NSW teachers may also follow the following guide:
    • 1 star competitions - Stage 3-4 students (Years 5 - 8)
    • 2 star competitions - Stage 4 students (Years 7 - 8)
