120 Year Anniversary

A BRIEF HISTORY

The year is 1899.

William Dobell is born, a figure who would later become one of the most renowned Australian portrait and landscape artists of the 20th century. Australian dairy company Bega Cheese is founded, which would later become a household name and staple. Notably, this is also the year that the Alliance Française first opened its doors in Sydney, establishing itself as a little piece of France, nestled in the heart of the city.

Since then (and spanning across an impressive 120 years), it has stayed true to its core mission, spreading French language and culture well beyond the borders of France, and seeking to enrich the lives of Sydneysiders through a robust educational and cultural programme.

120 YEARS OF FRANCO-AUSTRALIAN EXCHANGE

It is with great pride that this year, the Alliance Française de Sydney announces its 120 year anniversary. This monumental milestone will be commemorated with a special cultural program of events, activities, workshops and promotions which will run between mid-September and mid-October.

The Alliance Française de Sydney knows that language and culture are best when shared. This is why, whether young or old, new to French language and culture or an Alliance Française de Sydney regular, all Sydneysiders are invited to enjoy and celebrate our anniversary month.
