The Windows on Europe Film Festival

Coming up in November, the Windows on Europe Film Festivalshowcases the best new films from the 28 member states of the European Union at Dendy Opera Quays.

Presented by the European Delegation to Australia, supported by EU member states and programmed by non-profit company The Festivalists, many of these films are being shown in Australia for the very first time.
The program’s central theme this year is youth and many films address the experience of growing up in Europe today, with characters asserting their identity in the face of tradition, change and modernity. The mix of fiction and documentary highlights the vibrancy and quality of European cinema, with stories that will move you and keep thinking long after the credits have rolled.

The festival brings the Australian premiere of Pierre Salvador’s In The Courtyard (Dans La Cour) with Catherine Deneuve, Gustave Kervern, Pio Marmai.

Fortysomething Antoine decides  to pack in his music career and becomes the unlikely caretaker of an old Paris apartment building. Meanwhile, a fissure in the living room wall of resident Mathilde could point to cracks of a more psychological nature. Antoine and Mathilde develop an awkward friendship, which just might get them through this difficult patch. Comedy veteran Pierre Salvadori elicits breezy chemistry between screen legend Catherine Deneuve and comic Gustave Kervern in this bittersweet (and occasionally hilarious) tale of friendship and mental breakdown.
