Dear Members and Supporters,

The Alliance Française de Sydney, like most of you, is facing many challenges.

We’ve traversed numerous events and challenges over the last 120 years, from sending parcels to troops across the oceans during the wars, to navigating recessions and other upheavals.  As a not-for-profit entity and as time has testified, we’re here for the long haul.

So, with a heavy heart we closed our classrooms temporarily on Monday. The good news is that at the same time, we launched our first online courses which were prepared with the round-the-clock dedication of our teaching and administration team. That said, the response has been truly amazing and almost all of you have connected and enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to continue being part of our family.

We’re now moving on to the next phase and are actually quite excited about some of the opportunities which we are exploring to make your next stage with us even more rewarding. There is no need to lose your newly-acquired French language skills or your Alliance friends and no need to be bored. It’s not quite like going to Paris, but better than not going at all! And of course, you’ll be more than capable of not having to read the subtitles at the rescheduled Alliance Française French Film Festival if you keep up your studies.

In the meantime, we’re refining our courses and are constantly adding new learning resources which can be found on our website. Furthermore, we’re investigating online cultural experiences and will have some exciting news on that shortly so stay tuned.

For those of you who are members, we would normally be holding our annual general meeting in May. As you may be aware, the Australian Government has changed the legal requirements pertaining to hosting such meetings. We are therefore going to postpone this meeting until July, pending of course any updates or changes to the situation.

At times like this, it’s important that the board of directors continues to play a strong role in providing oversight and support to the team. We’re all committed to ensuring that the Alliance Française de Sydney adapts and is able to meet these new challenges.

Thanks to you all for your support. Please join us again for Session Three and see us online!

With best wishes
