Develop and extend your French language repertoire through these themed workshops focusing on exciting facets of French and Francophone cultures. Topics include French cinema, contemporary music, literature, poetry, theatre, art, fashion and so much more.

According to the specific theme of the workshop, the class can take the form of a debate, analysis of documents, hands-on activities, discussion, or presentation.

New to French? We also have some workshops available in English. These are the perfect stepping stone for students only beginning their French language journey. Similar to the French workshops, some basic grammar and vocabulary will be introduced followed by a class discussion on the particular theme.

Designing a new point of view: the evolution of French fashion

  • All levels: Talk in English

Fashion holds a significant place in cultural and social life in France, and has been an important aspect of the economy since the time of Louis XIV. In this illuminating workshop, examine, analyse and discuss the world of French Fashion, and learn about the lives of designers from Coco Chanel to Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and more. 


French cinema and comedy throughout the ages

  • Elementary/Intermediate: Friday 25 September,  5:30-7:30pm
  • Upper-Intermediate/Advanced: Friday 2 October, 5:30-7:30pm

Embark on a brief discovery of the history and development of French cinema, noting some of the most iconic actors and films of all time. Then, dive into the world of French comedy and examine the films and actors who played pivotal roles in this genre between the 60’s and now. Study extracts of new and old comedy classics to better understand the mechanisms of French humour.


A cultural history of the French and English languages

  • Upper-Intermediate/Advanced: Friday 13 November 5:30-7:30pm

Uncover the fascinating shared history between the French and English languages, explored through a variety of text and video resources. Studied in small groups and pairs, this workshop will enrich your understanding and learning of either of these languages.

  • Elementary/Intermediate: Friday 20 November, 5:30- 7:30pm
  • Intermediate/Advanced: Friday 27 November, 5:30-7:30pm

Rediscover famous French literature including the classics such as Balzac, Zola, Stendhal, Colette and Proust, and briefly review a selection of contemporary French works from renowned writers including Katherine Pancol, Guillaume Musso and Anna Gavalda.
