A message from our President

Dear members and supporters,

As the year comes to a close, on behalf of the board of directors, I’d like to thank you for your support in 2023. We have had an excellent year, filled to the brim with great courses, exciting events in both French and English, with more still to come.

The time has come for me to step down as President and hand over to François Romanet, who I know will do an excellent job in supporting the team, and in tandem with the board of directors, ensure the company is well-placed to grow the business and deal with future challenges. François will be known to some of you through his previous roles as Chairman of the Lycée Condorcet and Federal Chairman of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce (FACCI). He has a strong corporate background including as President and CEO of Naval Group Pacific, CEO of Safran Pacific and Managing Director of Safran Electronics and Defence Australasia.

It has been a privilege for me to collaborate closely with the Sydney team, and our colleagues and stakeholders around the country. Special thanks are due to the board of unpaid directors who have provided invaluable support and specialist advice to our not-for-profit organisation.  

The management and staff are to be congratulated for their efforts in achieving this year’s excellent results. The Alliance Française network has played an important role in influencing my own career path, starting off as a student in Perth, living and working in Paris for 18 years and becoming a board member for one year in 1989 and then again in 2008.

Over the years I have met many of you at events and courses and look forward to seeing you again at future events. As we head into 2024, I know you will all be on the lookout for the line-up of the 35th Alliance Française French Film Festival which showcases the best of French cinema.
