To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Amedeo Modigliani’s death, the Italian Cultural Institute is organising a screening of Jacques Becker's film "Les amants de Montparnasse" and a webinar lecture.
Les Amants de Montparnasse follows Modigliani's life from the years 1916 to 1920, a time characterised by his economic dependence on patron Leopold Zborowski, multiple relations with his muses, his reliance on drugs and alcohol, the fiasco of his only exhibition at the Galerie Berthe Weill, and his eventual death caused by tuberculosis.
The cast of the movie includes Gérard Philipe (Modigliani), Lilli Palmer (B. Hastings), Anouk Aimée (J. Hébuterne), Lea Padovani (Rosaline),
Gérard Séty (L. Zborowsky) and Lino Ventura (Morel).
