Online courses

Learn French at home and join our online community!

Our Adult and Teen French courses have temporarily moved to an online format until further notice. We offer both online group or private tuition packages. As student of Alliance Française de Sydney, you will join our online community of teachers and students for practising your writing and grammar skills outside of the classroom. Courses will be provided via Zoom and students and teachers will also exchange through the Apolearn platform.

Our e-learning plan is based on three tools:

1) A video conference tool, Zoom, for web meetings allowing you to see, listen and engage in exchanges with your teacher.

2) A platform, Apolearn, that you can use anywhere, anytime to submit homework and assignments (formal teaching) or take the opportunity to engage with your classmates (informal teaching).

3) A convenient online French keyboard, that will assist you with written work and typing accented characters. Simply type, copy and paste.

Other tools to complement your learning:

Every day, receive exercises, texts and dialogues adapted to your needs, capabilities and goals. Once it's completed, you'll immediately receive personalised corrections and explanations. Available on your PC, tablet and smartphone.

Access dozens of extra exercises available on your smartphone, computer or tablet. Made available exclusively for our students attending group classes, new exercises (including a large selection of audio exercises) are released after each lesson.

How do face-to-face courses differ from this e-learning plan?

To us, it is the equivalent. Our online courses have been developed to temporarily replace our regular classes, until it is safe and advisable to welcome you and the rest of our students back to our physical premises. Therefore, whilst the mode of teaching has changed (involving a combination of video conferencing and an e-learning platform), the class content, timetable and teachers have remained largely the same. Just like face-to-face learning, our online courses still invite plenty of opportunities to interact with fellow classmates, engage with teachers and get fully immersed in the French language.

It is important to bear in mind that with distance learning, there is an aspect of self-learning involved. Sometimes, this system of e-learning can prove even more successful than traditional methods! However in any case, we have a number of dynamic educational tools at your disposal (including a free app to complement your learning), and a dedicated team to assist with any technical or technology related questions that might arise, which you can easily reach at onlinecourse@afsydney.com.au.

How to get ready for your online courses

1) AFTER ENROLMENT

  • You will receive an email from your teacher with an invitation to join the Apolearn platform
  • Click through to the platform and explore the dashboard
  • Interact with fellow students with a 'bonjour!' on the class chat

 2) FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE YOUR CLASS

Just before your class, please be mindful that you have all the necessary tools that you will need to begin on time. Please verify:

  • Your computer or laptop is switched on and/ or your tablet or smartphone has enough battery / is connected to a power source
  • Check your sound settings are on - during the session, if your surrounding environment is noisy, you may mute your microphone and unmute when you would like to speak
  • You have a Chrome browser open
  • You have headphones on hand
  • Your camera is switched on (should you feel comfortable)
  • You have your books with you
  • You have opened your French keyboard

Before each class, you will be able to find the link to join your Zoom video conference on Apolearn or you will receive it in an email sent by your teacher. Please ensure you have clicked 'join' and await for your teacher's approval.
