After a well-earned break, Philo Bistro returns with Marie & Marie —a bilingual collection of poems brought to life by Adrienne Eberhard — poet, travelling from Hobart — and Catherine de Saint Phalle — novelist and translator, travelling from Melbourne — who will grace us with their presence for this very special evening.Marie & Marie is a brilliant collection of poems, imagining a correspondence between two extraordinary women: Marie-Antoinette, last Queen of France, and Marie-Louise Girardin, her Versailles contemporary who, disguised as a man, sailed on d'Entrecasteaux's expedition in Tasmanian waters at the height of the French Revolution.The evening promises a good dose of poetry, because some truths are too layered for prose, History, because Marie-Louise Girardin's story deserves to be heard, and both together, because Marie & Marie does what the historian and the poet do best when they work as one: restore not just the facts of a life, but its human feeling.
